While it is a long way till the players take to the field, behind the scenes work is in full swing. Equipment is checked and returned to the manufacturer for recertification, facilites booked for the new year, registration set and recruiting started.

Every red blooded Canadian celebrates the Grey Cup, and many fathers have played football in high school. Yet despite being in the community for four years many people are still unfamiliar with Ft Sask Minor Football. This means that we have to do a better job of promoting and explaining this mainstream Canadian sport.

Much like hockey, there are atom (8-10), pee wee (11 - 12) and bantam (13 - 15) age divisions for minor football. The Fort teams compete in the Capital District Minor Football Association (CDMFA) which as an executive umberlla organization manages a total of 72 teams in the various age divisions. CDMFA is part of Football Alberta, the provincial organizing authority for all levels of football in Alberta.

Unlike hockey, the registration cost is inexpensive $350 for the season, and FSMFA supplies all the equipment(less personal items like footwear and underwear)

Fort Sask Minor Football focus is:
Player Safety. We will never place a player in a situation where they are overmatched by size or skill. We want to place our players into a position where they will succeed and gain confidence. You may be moved to another position where contact is lighter and the team can take advantage of your stature, quicker speed, sure hands, tackling ability, etc.

Development of Player skills. Our systems are a little more technical than at the pee wee level. We develop player skills through progression during individual time, unit time and team time, through instruction, constructive criticism and instant feedback. Our terminology and methods are something that we have developed over 23+ years of coaching and the players seem to pick things up rather quickly.

Personal Growth there is more to football than football…. the boys grow not only as players, team mates and individuals, but also accept the concepts of discipline, accountability, trust, leadership and positive self image… traits that will stay with them through high school and beyond. This includes participation in civic events such as Canada Day parade, Legacy Park clean up, bottle drives, etc

Positive Football experience ..we want the players to enjoy themselves … team building, camaraderie and varied practices keep interest going and make learning fun. Our goal is to get each player as much field time during a game as is possible. The amount will vary due to game situations and of course player safety will take precedence.

Competitiveness .. We want to see the players perform to the best of their abilities at all times. While we want to win our share of games, the scoreboard is not always an indicator of a good game. We want to practice well, play well and develop as a team and individuals.

Fun .. along with the physical fitness aspect of sports, we want the players to enjoy themselves, make new friendships, learn about Canadian Football and most of all have Fun !!!!

We will be holding our open house Info/Gym night Feb 6 & 27 6:30 - 8:30 @ the DCC and encourage everyone to check out our program. There is no cost or obligation and the players can display their awsome football skills.
